Plenty of Fountain Hills pools are older than the equipment on their pads, and the pipe between the two has spent many summers in direct sun.   • Air bubbles from the return jets

    Air in the returns means air is getting into the suction side, often at a cracked fitting, a loose pump lid or a worn valve. The pump works harder than it should the whole time.

  • A pump that keeps losing prime

    A pump basket that half-empties overnight, or a pump that runs dry after a restart, suggests a suction leak that draws air while running and lets water drain back when it stops.

  • Wet ground between the pool and the pad

    Soggy soil in July, a stripe of weeds doing suspiciously well, or a paver settling along the return run. Water that leaves a pipe underground has to surface somewhere.

  • Does the auto-fill ever stop?

  • Cracks where the skimmer meets the deck

    A thin crack around the skimmer throat is usually the deck moving on the soil beneath it. Water finds that gap, and the gap widens every summer.

How do I run a bucket test?
Put a bucket on the first or second step and fill it so the water inside matches the pool level. Mark both with tape. Turn off the auto-fill, leave everything else as usual, and check after 24 hours. If the pool dropped more than the bucket, there is a leak worth finding.
How much evaporation is normal here?
In the hottest, windiest stretches of summer, a quarter inch a day is common and more is possible. Winter losses are a fraction of that. The bucket test matters because it measures your pool, your shade and your wind instead of an average.
Can you fix a line under the deck without tearing it all up?
Usually, with a small opening right over the leak. Pressure testing tells us which line; listening equipment finds the spot. Removing a long section only makes sense when a line has failed in several places, and then rerouting it may cost less than chasing it.
Is the gas line to my pool heater part of the job?
It is gas work, which we also do. Pool heaters are among the hungriest gas appliances a house can have, and they often need more pipe than the line someone ran for the grill. Gas line sizing is part of any heater upgrade we quote.
