In Litchfield Park, the material behind the walls matters more than the age of the fixtures in front of them. Polybutylene fails at its fittings, galvanized closes up from the inside, and tired copper pinholes. A repipe replaces the whole system in a few days while you keep living in the house, and it ends a category of repair instead of booking the next one.

Know the house and you know half the job. In Litchfield Park, the house is most often this: 1940s-60s original village plus newer surrounding build, with galvanized in the historic core, copper elsewhere inside it. We plan the visit around that before the truck leaves the lot.

Waiting has a cost beyond the repairs. Every leak on a failing system brings a service call, a drywall patch, and sometimes new flooring. Some insurers ask about polybutylene before writing a policy, and buyers’ inspectors flag it by name. The failure you are waiting for won’t pick a convenient moment, either. A repipe gets scheduled. A burst fitting at 2 a.m. does not.

When patching stops making sense

  • Gray pipe stamped PB2110

That’s polybutylene. It turns up in Valley neighborhoods built through the eighties and early nineties, from Mesa to Ahwatukee Foothills. It fails at the fittings, without warning, and it isn’t getting any younger.

  • Pressure that fades with distance

Strong at the kitchen, feeble at the back bathroom. When the street supply is fine and the far fixtures are starving, the pipe has narrowed from the inside.

  • Rust-colored first draw

Tinted water that clears after a few seconds is galvanized pipe shedding its lining. It’s cosmetic, right up until the day a joint rusts through.

  • A second leak under the slab

One under-slab pinhole can be bad luck. Two means the conditions behind the first exist along the whole run. Another spot repair will stop the leak; it won’t stop the pattern.

  • Yellowed plastic that snaps when bumped

Aging CPVC turns brittle, and attic heat hurries it. The usual warning is a fitting that cracks during some unrelated repair.

  • Three repairs, two years, one system

Add up the invoices. If the total is a real fraction of a repipe quote, the math has already made the decision and is waiting for you to notice.

Whole-Home Repiping

Questions we get asked

How long does a whole-house repipe take?
Three to five days for a typical single-story home, somewhat longer for two stories. Water is off for a few hours at a stretch during working hours and back on each evening.
PEX or copper for a Phoenix house?
For most homes here, PEX. It has no pinhole failure mode, it tolerates hard water well, it flexes instead of splitting, and it goes in with fewer fittings and smaller openings. Copper has the longer track record and a loyal following. We install either and have no stake in which you choose.
Can a repipe be done in stages?
It can. The hot side first is common, since hot lines usually fail first; so is one wing at a time. Staging costs a bit more overall because of repeated setup, but it spreads the spending, and it beats waiting for the next burst-pipe repair to set the schedule.
Will we have to move out during a repipe?
No. The work is staged so a bathroom and the kitchen come back each evening. Expect some noise, some dust inside the work area, and a crew in the house during the day.
