How often does a backflow preventer need testing?

The RPZ is larger, costs more, and has the relief port that drips when it needs attention.

Not for the city’s purposes. Required tests are done by a certified tester with calibrated gauges. You can, and should, look it over now and then for leaks, cracks, missing caps, and whether the landscaping has swallowed it.
